Fishing Tip: As fish move into their fall patterns and outdoors enthusiasts begin to search the woods for deer and ducks, anglers can have some of the best success and most peaceful surroundings of the year. Follow the shad in fall and fish spinnerbaits, small crankbaits and jigs in water ranging from 4 to 10 feet deep for the best success on bass. Crappie and bream will move deeper, sometimes schooling in water as deep as 50 feet.

White River: Gaston's White River Resort said the river was low al last week with little generation compared to usual. The fly-fishing was excellent on Hank’s Ant Bee and Olive Wooly Buggers. Spin fishermen did well on yellow Power Bait, wax worms, Rooster Tails and 1/8-ounce Little Cleos.

Wilderness Trail said trout fishing has been good on Berkley Power Eggs in yellow and white-and-pink. Buoyant Spoons, Little Cleos and Super Dupers are the baits of choice during generation. The fly-fishermen did well on olive Woolly Buggers, olive scuds and sow bugs. The brown trout are being caught on Flatfish, nightcrawlers and Rogues.

Bull Shoals Lake: As of Wednesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 646.86 feet MSL. Wilderness Trail said the lake temperature is 70 degrees, warming to 72 during the day; however, it is 70 degrees down to 40 feet, which is the top of thermocline. The Angler’s Edge 3rd Annual Team Bass Tournament was held last weekend and the anglers had to deal with bright sun, bluebird skies and no wind.  First place brought in a two-day total of 21.42 pounds and second place weighed in 19.82 pounds. Largemouth bass have become difficult to pinpoint now that they are off the banks. Now is a good time to Carolina rig, throw jigs or drop shot until the largemouth move into their fall pattern and head back toward the banks. Smallmouth are also hard to pinpoint but we know that they are using water depths from 36 to 40 feet of water to feed. Look for the smallies to move up on chunk rock or pea rock points to feed. Fish football jigs, Spider Jigs, grubs and Mojo rigged centipedes around the deep side of points. Kentucky bass are roaming with the shad and are pushing them to the top to frenzy feed. Keep a top-water bait tied on. As Kentuckies are spending most of the day swimming with the shad, graphing is more important this time of year if you wish to be successful.  When you locate an active school of shad, drop a spoon or use a drop shot to trigger a strike. Walleye have moved 30 to 40 feet deep to feed. Long-lining with lead core line and small baits (Hot’N Tots, Wally Divers and Glass Shad) have produced some nice 6 to 8 pound walleye this week.  Spooning is still a good option over flats and drop offs.

Sugar Loaf Harbor said the lake is murky and low. The crappie bite has improved over the last two days. They are biting well in 20 feet of water on minnows slow-trolled over wood structure. Bass are fair to good on crawfish and crawfish-imitating lures. Jugging for catfish is good using worms and sunfish as bait.

Lake Norfork: As of Wednesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 542.04 feet MSL.

Cranfield Junction Quik Stop said the lake is clear. Bream are biting well on crickets. Crappie are biting well on minnows and are beginning to move a little shallower. Bass are biting well early in the morning on spinnerbaits and top-water lures fished right next to the bank and visible structure. As the sun comes up, they go deep in a hurry.
